My Journey at Kitecyber

When I joined Kitecyber in October 2024 as Marketing and Demand Generation Specialist, I stepped into a fascinating challenge: a cybersecurity startup with cutting-edge AI technology—an AI security copilot for endpoints and network—but no marketing function to speak of.

Kitecyber had built a robust product that could compete with established players in the cybersecurity space. However, they faced critical gaps: unclear market positioning, undefined product categories, inconsistent messaging across channels, and zero demand generation infrastructure. The founders knew they had built something valuable, but the market didn't know Kitecyber existed.

As a marketer in a founders-office role, I worked directly with the CEO and CPO to establish the marketing foundation from scratch. My mandate was clear: define our GTM strategy, position Kitecyber in the right categories, and build a demand generation engine that could capture existing market demand while establishing our brand presence.

Over the following months, I built Kitecyber's entire marketing function—from strategy and positioning to execution across channels. I identified our key categories (DLP, UEM, SWG, SSE, and ZTNA), created compelling messaging, launched our digital presence, and established multi-channel campaigns that delivered measurable results. This is the story of building marketing infrastructure that turned a hidden gem into a visible contender.

Challenge & Objective

The Challenge

Kitecyber had a powerful AI security copilot product but faced fundamental marketing challenges: no market positioning, undefined product categories, inconsistent messaging, no demand generation function, dormant LinkedIn presence, zero paid media strategy, and no sales enablement materials. They needed to establish market presence quickly in highly competitive cybersecurity categories while building everything from the ground up.

Objective

Build Kitecyber's marketing function from zero to operational, starting with defining clear positioning and GTM strategy. Objectives included: categorizing the product in key cybersecurity verticals (DLP, UEM, SWG, SSE, ZTNA), creating consistent messaging across channels, launching multi-channel demand generation campaigns, establishing brand presence on LinkedIn, driving qualified trial signups, and creating sales enablement materials—all while working directly with founders to align marketing with product and business strategy.

Strategic Approach

As the first marketing hire working directly with founders, I built the entire marketing infrastructure from strategy to execution.

🎯

GTM Strategy & Positioning

Worked with CEO and CPO to define marketing KPIs, identify key product categories (DLP, UEM, SWG, SSE, ZTNA), and create compelling messaging consistent across all channels.

🌐

Website Repositioning

Spearheaded comprehensive website overhaul with keyword targeting, product category mapping, and high-impact comparison pages. Collaborated with web development agency for execution.

📱

Brand Presence & Content

Revived dormant LinkedIn presence through engaging carousels and video content. Created videos, case studies, brochures, and sales enablement materials to support the entire funnel.

💰

Multi-Channel Campaigns

Launched integrated campaigns across Google Ads ($60K budget), cold email outreach (Apollo.io), SEO, LinkedIn ads, and marketing automation to capture existing demand and generate pipeline.

SWOT Analysis

Understanding the market landscape and internal capabilities was crucial to building an effective go-to-market strategy for a cybersecurity startup entering competitive categories.

Strengths

Robust AI security copilot product with strong technical capabilities, direct access to founders for strategic alignment, first-mover advantage in AI-powered endpoint security, and backing to invest in growth.

Weaknesses

Zero marketing infrastructure, no brand awareness in target market, undefined market positioning, dormant digital presence, and competing against well-funded established players.

Opportunities

Growing demand for AI-powered security solutions, existing high-intent searches in DLP/UEM/SWG/SSE/ZTNA categories, gaps in competitor messaging, and opportunity to establish thought leadership early.

Threats

Intense competition from established cybersecurity vendors, high customer acquisition costs in the space, complex B2B sales cycles, and rapidly evolving AI security landscape requiring constant positioning updates.

Strategy & Execution

Building a marketing function from zero required a phased approach—from strategic foundation to scaled multi-channel execution.

Foundation & Strategy (Month 1-2)

Defined marketing KPIs with CEO and CPO, conducted competitive analysis, identified key product categories, developed positioning framework, and created messaging hierarchy. Established brand voice and prepared GTM roadmap.

Digital Presence & Positioning (Month 2-4)

Led comprehensive website repositioning with keyword targeting and product category mapping. Created comparison pages targeting high-intent searches. Collaborated with web agency on implementation and launched optimized digital presence.

Demand Generation Launch (Month 3-6)

Launched Google Ads campaigns with $60K budget targeting cybersecurity keywords. Deployed cold email sequences via Apollo.io. Implemented marketing automation workflows. Revived LinkedIn with content strategy featuring carousels and videos.

Scale & Optimization (Month 5-8)

Expanded multi-channel campaigns across SEO, LinkedIn ads, email, and paid search. Created sales enablement materials (case studies, brochures, guides). Optimized campaigns based on performance data. Focused on MQL-to-SQL conversion improvements.
